Big Daddy Karsten calls out homophobia in new video, launches merch site

Big Daddy Karsten releases a new Bearmixxx video where he calls out homophobia in the music industry!

The gay Norwegian rapper just dropped a dope Bearmixxx video today, a remix of rapper Jack Harlow’s “Tyler Herro”, in which he raps about the pressures associated with the rampant homophobia and discrimination in the music industry. In the video directed by Kim-Remi Kjesbu, the rapper opens the song with “Most people who hate me ain’t like me” and continues to flow for two and half minutes in a single panned shot, as he calls out those in the industry who have distanced themselves after learning he was gay.

BDK’s hard-hitting lyrics highlight a very real problem in the music industry, particularly in Hip-Hop: Gay artists are rarely given the attention and credit they deserve in an industry they continue to innovate. Despite their contributions, the industry seems more intent on silencing them than hearing what they have to say.

To this, BDK raises the middle finger and declares himself a winner whether they see it or not. “I’m the better man/ under the wings of a Leatherman/ I’m making us a part of Hip-Hop, you bet I can/ I got the better dick and the better plan”, he raps.

The rapper ends the song with a shout out to many of his fellow queer rappers, including DDm, Big Dipper, Bryce Quartz, Mykki Blanco, Cakes da Killa, Symphonic, Zebra Katz, Le1f, EarthTone, Duke Stamina and Soleil Camara. “You inspire me. I see you, I believe in you. Believe in yourself, ’cause we gonna break through, sooner or later”, he proclaims.
